My Top Picks of 2024

· Thoughts,Games

As the year comes to an end, it’s time to look back and reflect on what made 2024 memorable. Here's my personal list of the top things that defined this year for me:

🎮

Top 3 Games of 2024

2024 for me was mostly about playing some old hits that I've missed for ridiculous reasons. Still, here are the games that impressed me the most.

1. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

1&2 - I played it on NSW as a remastered bundle. After all these years, it still playes well (while I could not enjoy Dragon Age: Origins as it seemed too old!) and still stands as a great example of party RPG. One of the best stories in SW universe for me.

2. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine II

- An epic adventure that you can dive into side-by-side with your friends. Great action, not too long to tire you and with enough additional content if you still will crave for more after completing the story. The best thing that happened to WH40K in ages.

3.

Dredge - An indie gem that caught me by surprise. Addictive, with dark vicious atmosphere and a lot of inventory management (it's a good thing).

Honorable mention: Portal 2. While technically the bundle was a 2023 game for me, I played the second one early in 2024 and it left an unforgetable impression.

🎬

Top 3 Movies of 2024

1. Oppenheimer

- I know, I know! Again, catching up with older stuff I missed. If you did the same - don't repeat my mistakes, go see it now.

2. Deadpool & Wolverine

- A lot of fanservice and some balls in the age of mild superhero movies. Definitely felt good!

3. Smile 2

- It's very hard to find a good horror nowadays so you have to dig through a pile of shit. Smile 2 IS a good horror movie.

📺

Top 3 Series of 2024

1. Arcane

- from art style to OST, it's a pure masterpiece.

2. The Gentlemen

- Gets you in right from the start, with bold twists and harsh language. The aesthetics, the charm - that's the perfect mob dramedy.

3. BoJack Horseman

- while not from 2024 (as half of things in this post), it was still a highlight for me. I heard about this show but did not expect much. And it became the greatest revelation, with dark desperate humor and deep morale.

📚

Top 3 Books of 2024

1. The Door into Summer

by Robert Heinlein - This year I decided to read more of fictional literature and not just business/self-education stuff. I started with this book as Heinlein is like a comfort zone for me and I've been postponing this novel for too long - and it's just a great read.

2. The Gambler by Fyodor Dostoevsky

- incredible book, with gambling depicted so vividly that you feel the same rush as the main character. A book that makes you sweat.

3. Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold

- A book that made me think about various things. How we percieve death, what we believe in, what will matter when we are gone. I guess, I'll go see the movie now :)

Top App of 2024

Woofz - this app lets you train your dog in a playful Duolingo-like manner, backed up by some insights from professional dog trainers. And the best part - it works: Hunter knows a lot of useful things now and behaves better.

🧠Most Insightful Learning Moment of 2024

PMP training, for sure. The outcomes are to be seen but I already notice the improvements in some of my approaches.

🐾

Personal Highlight of 2024

We got a second dog, Hunter the Beagle. Even Luther became more active, not to mention ourselves.

2024 brought its challenges and triumphs, and these moments shaped it into an unforgettable year. Here’s to a fantastic 2025, filled with new adventures, stories, and milestones! 🥂
